Direct Action Against Military Shipments Continues in Tacoma, WA

IMC-US, 11.03.2007

Over the past two weeks, Olympia Port Militarization Resistance (OlyPMR) and Tacoma Port Militarization Resistance (Tacoma PMR) have stepped up efforts to close their ports to military shipment bound for Iraq as part of President Bush's escalation of the conflict. The effort has been beset by arrests (see video), misinformation posts on multiple bulletin boards, and an apparently unprovoked police riot on Friday evening (see reports: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4) Undeterred, demonstrators gathered again Saturday evening for a "nonviolent but non complicit protest". OlyPMR and Tacoma PMR say they plan to continue daily vigils and other actions for as long as Iraq-bound military equipment continues to arrive at the Port of Tacoma.
