The first ever
United States Social Forum opened on Wednesday, June 27 with a march of thousands through downtown Atlanta protesting a proposal to privatize Atlanta's only public hospital. (
Report & Photos from DC-IMC) Trade unionists, peace activists, community organizers, students, IMCistas, and others are converging on Atlanta this week to march, rally and develop strategies in their fight against the ultra-right. An Indymedia Caucus is scheduled for Saturday at 5pm, near the Pine Street stage in the park, or inside at the
Indymedia table in case of rain.
Indymedia volunteers produced a special USSF 2007 print edition of Indymedia.US, with a roundup of recent local features from around the country and information about lots of indymedia projects, for distribution at the forum. Download it here.

Our lives and community continue to be threatened by the actions of a few who have chosen a path of betrayal and deception. These few have chosen to break the trust that has for so long held us together as friends and confidents. These individuals must be challenged and called upon to be honest and transparent about their situations and the circumstances for which give rise to this call for concern.

In 2004 a crash of Blackwater Flight 61 occurred in the rugged mountains of central Afghanistan, killing three soldiers and three-man crew. The widows of the soldiers sued Presidential Airways, Blackwater’s sister company, which was under contract with the U.S. military to fly cargo and personnel around Afghanistan.
Lawyers for the company has asked a federal court to decide the case using provisions from the Islamic Shari’a, not the U.S. laws. They argue that the Shari’a “does not hold a company responsible for the actions of employees performed within the course of their work.”

The Brazilian Democracy demonstrates as it is imperfection and as the federal constitution it is not respected in the country. Prohibition of if revealing public in walks are characteristic of an authoritarian country. Legalize-Já! Thus it is the false Brazilian democracy: in first of May militant anarchic (Cob/Ait), the also lesser ones of ages, they had been tortured and threatened of death in a police station of São Paulo. In Rondônia a without-land slaughter (LCP) happened to few days, to put was not divulged na media and the government ignored the occurrence. Now, the march of marijuana was forbidden in almost all country, great them 13 city where it went to occur the march, only four will be able to carry through it, Porto Alegre, Recife, Florianópolis and Vitoria.

During the US Social Forum, New York-based Domestic Workers United (DWU) and over ten other domestic worker organizations from California to Maryland founded a historic national network of domestic workers to link their struggles and more effectively agitate for change. As Celeste Escobar of DWU commented, "We need it more now than ever..."
Stemming from the history of slavery, domestic workers are excluded from most basic labor protections US workers enjoy. And that legacy continues as nearly the whole workforce is foreign-born women of color, who are forced to migrate to the United States in search of viable employment opportunities.

As we approached the bus stop over on the north side of Union Square, we knew all of our hard work over the past few months had been well worth it. Looking out over the 100 person, two-bus delegation, you couldn't help but be struck by the amazing cross section of people and organizations we were rolling with on our way down to the first ever US Social Forum (USSF) in Atlanta.

An interview at the US Social Forum with Faith Gemmill, member of REDOIL (Resisting Environmental Destruction on Indigenous Lands) Network, about the environment, climate change, and a warning to all about failing to take care of the earth.
"What's happening to us in the north is that we're being affected by climate change. We see our land being destroyed by the fossil, mining, military industry... We are actually literally dying and everyone is responsible for that. Because the energy that is being taken from our homelands, feeds the need here and so we are calling on all people, all human beings of conscience... Change how you live."
